‘The Goonies’ Get a Lego Makeover: A Classic 1980s Adventure Reimagined in Bricks

Four decades after its original release, The Goonies — the 1985 cult-favorite adventure film directed by Richard Donner and produced by Steven Spielberg — is back in the spotlight, this time in Lego form.

Lego has officially revealed a 2,912-piece set inspired by the movie’s iconic pirate ship, the Inferno. The detailed diorama invites fans to relive The Goonies’ unforgettable moments through intricately designed rooms, including the Fratellis’ hideout, boulder traps, the Bone Organ, and One-Eyed Willy’s treasure chamber.

The set includes 12 minifigures — featuring Mikey, Mouth, Chunk, Andy, Data, and others — along with custom-designed pieces such as Sloth’s pirate hat and bandana and Mama Fratelli’s distinctive hair and beret. Once assembled, the model measures 18 cm wide, 62 cm long, and 36 cm high.

To celebrate the launch, Lego released a short promotional video starring Ke Huy Quan, who played Data in the original film. In it, Quan takes viewers on a nostalgic tour of the set while sharing behind-the-scenes memories from filming.

“When we first saw the real Inferno on set, they made us walk in backwards so we wouldn’t see it until cameras were rolling,” Quan recalled. “Our reactions were completely genuine — except poor Josh [Brolin] had to reshoot because he cursed in excitement!”

The new build comes from Lego Ideas, a platform that turns fan-submitted creations into official sets through community voting. The Goonies project was designed by Vaggelis Ntezes, a Greece-based 3D artist known online as Delusion Brick.

“In designing this set, I revisited my childhood — playing with Lego Pirates and watching The Goonies,” Ntezes said. “I wanted to blend nostalgia with creativity, offering both playability and display value while capturing the spirit of adventure that defines the movie.”

The Goonies Lego set will be available through Lego’s early access program on November 1, and in stores on November 4, priced at $309.99. Fans who purchase before November will also receive a bonus 179-piece mini set, The Walsh Attic, which recreates the moment the kids first discover the treasure map.

Since its 1985 debut, The Goonies has remained a touchstone of ‘80s pop culture — a blend of humor, heart, and high-seas adventure. The film, written by Chris Columbus and starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen, and Ke Huy Quan, continues to attract new generations of fans.

Nearly forty years later, the spirit of “Goonies never say die” lives on — this time, one Lego brick at a time.
